Virgin Lungs LLC. announces CannaPlex™ Supplement for Runners High and the Endocannabinoid System

Denver based Virgin Lungs, LLC announced its CannaPlex™ supplement formulated with ingredients that allow and encourage the body to utilize cannabinoids more effectively, increasing and helping to facilitate the condition known as "runner's high" recently found to utilize the eCB or Endocannabinoid System. CannaPlex™ is “formulated with ingredients shown to modulate the Endocannabinoid System, allowing increased receptor affinity and interactions while promoting proper lung function and respiratory health.”

This body-system was recently reported by The New York Times as responsible for the effect known as "runner's high" now known to utilize the endocannabinoid (eCB) system. The dietary supplement, CannaPlex™, contains ingredients shown to be necessary for the eCB system to function at it's optimal level. The Nov. 2011 Journal of Free Radical Biology Medicine recently found one CannaPlex™ ingredient (atocopherol) to be a “new lipid modulator of the cannabinoid system; necessary for the activation of cannabinoid receptors responsible for the absorption of [eCBs]."

The British Journal of Pharmacology recently noted how terpenes not only contribute their own medicinal effects but can also behave synergistically to enhance the medicinal effects of other cannabinoids in the body. ("Taming THC: potential cannabis synergy and phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects," Ethan B. Russo, M.D., BJP, vol. 163, issue 7, Aug 2011) Review author, Dr. Russo, noted that “terpenoids are pharmacologically versatile: they are lipophilic, interact with cell membranes, neuronal and muscle ion channels, neurotransmitter receptors… second messenger systems and enzymes.”

Terpenes continue to be a hot topic of discussion in the medical community. In the Nov. 2011 article “Importance of Terpenes” published in Cannabis Health News Magazine, author Nathan Spaulding wrote "observations indicate that in addition to the psychoactive properties present in cannabis resin, secondary components including terpenes are either psychoactive themselves, or are able to modulate or potentiate the effect of [eCBs] when ingested in combination.” CannaPlex™ helps potentiate the bodies natural eCBs released during exercise.

Spaulding’s article supports the Virgin Lungs, LLC. - CannaPlex™ claim of an apparent synergy between endocannabinoids and terpenes, stating “another significant action when used in combination with cannabinoids [were the] terpenes ability to alter the permeability of both the cell membranes and the blood/brain barrier, cannabinoids to have a faster onset and more thorough absorption.”
